Artillery OCS Alumni Chapter Charitable Endowment Fund

Establishment of the Artillery OCS Chapter Charitable Endowment Fund with The Lawton Community Foundation was discussed and approved at the annual business meeting held during the June 2004 reunion.

The Fund was opened with an initial contribution (gift) of $10,000 from the Chapter General Fund on December 6, 2005. A matching grant of $2,500 was provided by the Lawton Community Foundation on January 17, 2006. The Chapter followed up with another $10,000 contribution (gift) on June 19, 2006 to meet the initial funding requirement.

An annual distribution (grant) from the Fund received each November is equal to five percent of the average market value of the fund averaged over the previous twelve quarters.

The Chapter Board determines the disposition of the annual distributions (grants) and any additional contributions (gifts) to the Fund from the Artillery OCS Alumni Chapter.

To achieve maximum growth, the Board of Directors chose to gift back the annual distributions until this past year. The November 2017 distribution of $6,531 was deposited into the Chapter Checking account and will be used for expenses associated with the current lease agreement, educational outreach and Hall of Fame expenses. It is anticipated that future distributions will help fund the yearly operating expenses associated with the Chapter website, educational outreach, our Fort Sill Museum presence and administration of the Hall of Fame.

Since 2008, the Chapter has leveraged yearly matching grant opportunities offered by the Lawton Community Foundation to help grow the Fund. Direct individual contributions of $14,735 and deposits of $31,500 from the Chapter to the Fund have resulted in matching grants of $36,525 from the Lawton Community Foundation.

The Chapter applied for a matching grant on June 30, 2017. It is anticipated that the request will be approved with a grant of $3,200 after new deposits to the Fund of at least $5,000 between September 30, 2017 and June 30, 2018. The recent matching grant program stipulations require that at least half of the new contributions for the matching grant be from individual donors.

We are pleased to report that the Fund balance on March 20, 2018 was $170,200.

The Lawton Community Foundation was established in 1999 to support the current and future charitable interests of the Lawton community and surrounding areas.
